I introduce the methodology of my nonproliferation research with quantum electrodynamics with the negative image equivalence with Charge-Coupled Devices. With the minimalist evidence gathering approach, I argue for a cosmologically relevant perspective in climate change that keeps an eye on the thermonuclear environment of outer space. I give a pilot narrative on the transcultural communication gaps, and the results suggest Trump’s unarticulated reasoning for climate change comments may have not been wrong. I discuss on the geopolitical games played that contribute to climate change from within the earth, and conclude that a global democratization with the separation of power may be the only ideal forward.
Ever since the Paris Agreement, climate change has been attributed to civil industries and the concept of Carbon Tax originated from Sweden began to proliferate [
]. Nearly 30 years after the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, Donald Trump’s arguments against global warming looked overwhelmingly politically incorrect, however, was he right on something? [ ] For someone with a nuclear science background since high school and self-learned cosmological background since secondary school, I always sensed there is another perspective to it. And it is not only the fact that the global military carbon expenditure may far surmount the civil expenditure, but also how climate change can be influenced by the outer space environment instead of the imminent pollutions [ ]. But still, I had been capturing the nuclear proliferation and chemical pollutions mixed up with the electromagnetic warfare pollutions in Beijing since 2010, with an example seen in Figure 1. Climate change, as it appears, is more heavily impacted by geopolitical and power political players than the civil economic players. The charge-coupled device (CCD) is the prism for me to look through the unnoticeable daily nuclear activities. The wide varieties of CCDs might range the wavelengths from about 0.1 nm (soft x-ray) to 400 nm (blue visible) through to about 1000 nm (near infrared) with a peak sensitivity at around 700 nm [
]. The pixelated information stored in the negative image of CCDs can be either processed by professional astronomical software like JS-4L and SAOImage DS9, or by professional cinematic post-production software like AVID Media Composer and Adobe Premiere. The only difference is that the former data processing can treat the data pixel by pixel either in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) with wavelength sensitivity or in quantum electrodynamics (QCD) with pixel depth, but the latter processing by color correction tools etc. can only treat the imagery data in QCD for its original software design purposes to cut out particulate interference of wavelengths and integrally adapt the QCD effects to the human eyes’ perception of what the realistic object should be in the white-balanced images.I conceptualized the artistic reality differently, or in other words, I conceptualized the reality differently and presented them in the reality of art. Is the sun supposed to penetrate the earth with gamma rays? Or what other substances could have radiated them onto my CCD in the vicinity of my living space? The tabooed stories shaped my first video art work Soiled Tattered Tissue in 2010 in Beijing, which is emotionally undignified but spiritually worthwhile [
]. The metaphors in the figures and elements were only decorative to the technical negative image of the CCD of Cannon Mark II, with white balanced to the corners of the skies where the most abundant ultraviolet wavelength ought to have come from and gamma level amplified by post-production. The QCD adjustments to the color presentations stated the negative of tissues, both of the objective meaning into the toilet like consumables and of the biological organisms. The subversion of context in the work focused on the façade of economic freedom under ethnicism, nationalism, and international formalism. The substantive reality was contrasted full-frontal with the desirable hues, and the atavistic figures were paving for the fire without knowledge. Amongst the technical, the literal, the cultural, and the cross-cultural for the invited exhibition The Travelling Artwork in Amsterdam, it is hard to say if the feelings were delivered or if the meanings intended were rationally perceived by the audience. The subversion of meaning in the work was intended to create a universality of meaning behind the real image, but the reconstructions of meaning are subjective to individuals’ consciousnesses. The stirs of conscience, however, do not elude the consentient minds. It was not an artistic expression, but an artistic representation.
It is not easy to look at one’s own shadow, and it is even uneasier to live behind the shadow of the given persons in terms or without terms. The dark side of the Chinese culture presented in the footage was self-censored, in order to keep the actors’ and actresses’ informed consent, for their intolerance on the behaviors with the a posteriori look at the footage. Neither was there a transcendence designed for the usual anticipation of sublimity. The anti-sublimity of destruction adopted the Chinese culture of signaling warfare with the fire and smoked, ignited on the tissue-carpet paved by the ethnic Han people. The mentality of hospitality with feasts and banquets in the Chinese culture of lurking hostility was implied in the video art.
The fleeting particles in the negative images fused into the hues were accompanied by the vertical montage, with the mismatches of meaning in the affects influenced by the visuals and sounds. The original soundtrack was composed by Haowei Guo, and the collaboration intended to remix the traditional Chinese music instruments with psychedelic rock. It intended to blur the boundaries between the traditional Chinese cultural identities with the analogies to the Beat Generation in the United States of America. The avant-garde music experimented with mixing the emotional arousal with the psychiatric affect rationally captured in the fleeting gamma-ray detection hidden in the objectified imagery. It resonated with the self-objectification of identities in the Chinese society with the deeply rooted ideological obstacles.
In summary, I approached the concept of negative image from the technical, cultural identical, and psychological perspectives with the CCD epoch. The negative image in the CCD epoch has often been overlooked by artists and its QCD and QED potentials are mostly utilized in the astronomical and astrophysical science investigations. I utilized the QED potentials in nonproliferation research in my experimental video art practice in an attempt to present the deeper ideological factors of war behind the façade of economic development in the Chinese Reform and Opening. The psychological perspective of the video art experimented with the transcultural duality of artistic communication. For one facet, it rendered the cultural self-reflection on the 5,000 years of imperial accumulations, and for the other, it rendered the reality of the environment determinate of health under the hierarchical structure.
I hate to say that “Trump is right!”, yet maybe the more appropriate words should be “President Trump has some intuitions that is not unfair”. According to the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs’ Online Index of Objects Launched into Outer Space, there are currently 21,287 objects above the atmosphere in the earth’s orbit that ARE REGISTERED [
]. The metallic objects’ influences to the atmospheric plasmas are far more unpredictable and unaccountable to be attributed to any entities that are subject to taxation. Therefore, the conflict of interests is not as simple as it appears in political correctness.Albeit Carbon tax can still play a significant role in constraining the imminent geopolitical players’ games that can be negative-sum to the global society, the outer space’s thermonuclear environment ought still not to be overlooked [
]. There was no public condemnation on People’s Republic of China’s use of photon beams in the Quantum Experiments at Space Scale (QUESS), and instead, it stirred public applause and appraise on technological developments, even when it is evident that they can interfere with nuclear fusion and fission [ , , ]. This is also the reason why the cosmologists have always been awed by how the universe has kept its balance in the creation and sustainment of life with the working of the cosmos.Just as how the concept of climate change is based on the ethics of human actions’ consequentialism, the use of physical signals in outer space is exactly the same consequentialist argument. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” And we only came to fix it 255 years after the first Industrial Revolution in1760 A.D. But in terms of human generations – three. With my theory on the black hole and white hole thermonuclear binding proved, the worst-case scenario for a single accident to happen and influence the nearest known black hole with butterfly effects, it will be 900 years [
]. Well, it looks quite promising compared to the current policy definitions on global warming than I anticipated, but it can still be exacerbated, with China’s multi-purpose geopolitical game in the South China Sea [ ].Back to the question I proposed in the title, how are we able to persuade the nation-states, technological giants, and geopolitical players to cease and desist the destructive tendencies and groom the nature instead, in a way that it is predictably rewarding to human security? [
] It then comes back to the old questions of the wealth of nations and the protective role of neoliberal institutionalism in international relations. Multilateralism is difficult, but not impossible, if the spirit of the foundations is being valued.Realists take the rule-based interpretations of the United Nations Security Council, while liberalists take the principle-base value for the foundation of the U.N. from the Universal Declarations of Human Rights. The dichotomy of the giant multilateral institution is often argued in terms of gender and sexual diversity, nevertheless, the objectivity is still not non-existent with the original texts of the Universal Declarations of Human Rights [
]. It is only from carefully examining the human needs in the societal and natural environments, can we empirically elaborate, articulate, and advance the spirits of the Declarations, instead of putting it in the closet. It is high time to take the skeleton out of the cupboard and give it a forensic examination, in order to see the nature of persons for who everyone is, instead of being taken as figures and data.It is in these regards, climate change is indeed not the foremost concern in global warming itself, but human security and human needs are. So how about democratization on a global scale?
I thank the retired faculties of Communication University of China that helped with both the mentoring out of office with the research behind the commentary / opinion work, and the protection of the author from potential harms in conducting such a research by the means of the art. And I thank my family, which even with a conflict of interests still provided me with objective information that facilitated my autonomy of self-protection. Last but not the least, I thank William Zarit and John Pachankis, both of which helped me in shaping and making a mature mentality in voicing out the authentic scientific opinion through the media of choice.
The data is presented as is in Figure 1. Further data have been published in different forms and exhibited as artworks in curated exhibitions.
