Biography

Dr. AA Harutyunyan is a distinguished researcher at the Scientific Technological Center of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (STCOPC) of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia (NAS RA). Located at 26 Azatutyan Avenue, Yerevan, Armenia, this institute specializes in the development of scientific and technological bases for organic synthesis, drug manufacturing, and the creation of pharmaceutical substances.

Dr. Harutyunyan has contributed significantly to the field of medicinal chemistry, particularly in the synthesis and study of heterocyclic compounds with potential biological activity. His research focuses on the development of synthetic methods for constructing polycyclic azaheterocycles, which serve as reliable structural bases for the design of new pharmacological agents. Notably, he has authored the article "Benzo[4’,5’]imidazo[2’,1’:6,1]pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines: Past and Present," published in IgMin Research in November 2023. This work reviews synthetic approaches to constructing this heterocyclic system and discusses their biological properties.

In addition to his research endeavors, Dr. Harutyunyan is actively involved in the academic community, contributing to the advancement of pharmaceutical sciences in Armenia.

Benzo[4’,5’]imidazo[2’,1’:6,1]pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidines: Past and Present

Synthetic approaches to the construction of the heterocyclic benzo[4’,5’]imidazo[2’,1’:6,1]pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine system based on heterocyclizations of substituted benzimidazoles and a new alternative strategy based on 2,4,6-trisubstituted pyrimidinyl-5-propanoic acids are considered. The latter method has been shown to be a successful addition to previously described methods, since it allows one to bypass the significant limitations associated with the use of substituted benzimidazoles and allows the introduction of fu...nctional substituents at different positions of the heterocycle that are inaccessible by other methods. The available information on derivatives of this heterocyclic system and their biological properties is summarized.
